Founder / Coach – Delaware Destroyers

At the age of 16, John Pellegrino had a swimming accident that resulted in breaking his neck at the C7 level.  One year after his accident, he was introduced to the sport of wheelchair basketball and has been playing ever since.  Because John likes to stay active, he became a certified scuba diver and took up handcycling that has allowed him to participate in the Bike-to-the-Bay every year since 2008, and he has completed two Philadelphia Marathons.  John’s an avid bi-skier (19 years) and participates in paintballing every chance he gets.  His three incredible children keep him very busy but even with his busy schedule, he co-founded the Delaware Destroyers wheelchair basketball team in 2005 to help keep the sport alive in Delaware.  John’s favorite motto: “Don’t Tell Me What I Can’t Do.”
